Here is a lantern I created using Funtime Software and my Gazelle by Bosskut to cut the pieces out.  I have posted a youtube video on how to assemble it.

Back to work, 4-6th, 1-7th, and 3-8th graders.  We had a massive heat wave.  The temperatures reached over 100 degrees each day.  Thursday, exhausted, I drove home to a very warm house baking at 105 degrees.  I got on my computer to check my email, eyes heavy, hand on mouse and fell asleep.  I woke up to total silence.  "Oh drat" I thought, "The air conditioner blew the circuit breaker again."  But it was too quiet.  "Oh, the computer is off.  That never happened before."  Josh emerged from his cave (room) and said that the power is out.  Well, that began a very interesting evening.

We tried to make phone calls, but the cell towers were not working and cell calls were not available.  So we texted each other.  "Do you know what happened?", "No, I wonder if it is a terrorist attack!", "Do you have candles?", "How long is it going to last?"  Questions zipping across cyber space.  Our neighbor who works for SDG&E said that it is county wide... but I never dreamed that the blackout would stem from New Mexico, to Baja California and up to Orange County!  So it seems that some worker must have tripped on an extension chord and knocked the power off the grid.

As the day grew darker, we barbequed under the light of the barbeque and a single candle.  The stars were bright and the moon lit up the sky.  It appeared so bright!  We downloaded a radio app to our cell phones and was able to get one San Diego radio station.  Announcements of school closing...  but not SDUSD.  So I sat in my car listening to the radio and playing Angry Birds on my cell.  Finally, it was announced that SDUSD joined the school closing.  Boy did I need a day off after the very stressful week I had had so far.

Friday, my scrapbooking buddies came over and I decided to make a page of the blackout.

The background paper was originally a light gray.  I used various Glimmer Mists to get the night sky look.  I used my Gazelle digital cutter for the tag and labels.  Of course after I posted a picture of my page, I realized I spelled breaker wrong!  LOL So, being as anal as I am with scrapbooking, I will have to redo it.

I also made my first youtube video this past week!

Ok! Here I am. I've joined the "blog"wagon and started my own blog. For those who do not know me, my name is Janice. I live in Southern California, where it hardly ever rains, but when it does... it pours. Hmmm.. that sounds like a song. Oh, I try to have a sense of humor, sometimes I am successful... then other times, I duck a alot.

I am a Special Education Teacher by trade. I love creating. I love figuring out how to "do something" and make "it". I love to spend time with my Scrapbooking Buddies. We've gone to a couple of Expos and will be going to CHA in Anaheim next month. My favorite person to see of all times is Tim Holtz! Yes, I am a Tim Holtz groupie... just love his products. And what a nice guy he is!

I've dabbled in crafts since I was a young girl, cutting out pictures of models and clothes from the Sears and Roebuck catalogs to make paper dolls. I begged my mother for a subscription to the American Handicrafts Club, where they would send a craft kit in the mail once a month. I sold hand crafted Troll Paper dolls in elementary school for 15 cents each and 25 cents if you wanted some clothes with it. I sewed Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and sold them to shops. My mother and I created hand sculptured dolls that we named "Son Flowers" (No, not sun flowers). My daughter and I made earrings and sat hours upon hours at craft fairs. We sold customized clocks with various themes (mostly 80s cartoons) and sold on Ebay. So what am I doing now? I'm creating digital die cuts for digital cutters.

Ok, Hopefully, I'll be able to add lots of fun and exciting things to this blog.
Now, to get my Scrapbooking Buddies to post a note so I won't feel so lonely here

Hugs!
Janice
